Rooted not cuttings

Pedestal Edition
Thick, crocodile-textured foliage in a deep, inky green crowns this large bird’s-nest anthurium. The scale reads architectural—bold blades, stout petioles, and a commanding, self-supporting rosette that anchors a room.

Dimension & Build

  • Botanical: Anthurium hookeri ‘Black Dragon’
  • Form: upright bird’s-nest rosette; broad, paddle-like leaves with heavy corrugation
  • Finish: satin–matte surface; rugged, bullate patterning; substantial leaf thickness
  • Interior scale (large): typically ~60–90 cm (24–35 in) with steady routines
  • Pet guidance: display beyond curious nibblers

Where It Belongs
Set on a low console or pedestal where side light skims the texture. Pairs well with smooth, matte planters and minimal décor; contrasts beautifully against fine-leaf aroids and lighter variegates.

Light & Climate

  • Illumination: diffused daylight or gentle morning rays; screen harsh noon sun to protect the bullate surface.
  • Humidity & Temp: comfortable room moisture around 55–70% RH; 20–29 °C (68–85 °F).
  • Air: mild circulation keeps edges tidy and the crown firm.

Water & Medium

  • Hydration: re-water when the top layer feels dry; drench thoroughly and let excess drain—no standing water.
  • Substrate: open, fast-draining matrix—orchid bark + pumice/coarse perlite + coco chips, with a light sphagnum accent.
  • Crown: seat slightly high in the mix to discourage basal wetness.

Feeding & Upkeep

  • Nutrition: balanced fertilizer at ¼–½ strength during active growth; taper as days cool.
  • Grooming: dust leaves so the sculpted “armor” reads clean; remove tired lower blades to keep the silhouette crisp.
  • Orientation: quarter-turn the planter every few weeks for even presentation.

Set-In Notes
Start under cushioned brightness and step light up over 10–14 days. New flushes usually show the sharpest corrugation and richest dark tone.
