Ribbon Starter
Slim, strap-like leaves spill gracefully from a compact crown—sleek lines, airy movement, and a tidy footprint that suits shelves, tall stands, or hanging cradles.
Shape Language
- Botanical: Anthurium vittarifolium
- Habit: epiphytic, pendant growth from a small, self-supporting crown
- Blade: narrow, leathery “ribbons” with a clean midrib and parallel venation; satin-to-soft-matte finish
- Current scale (small): ~15–30 cm (6–12 in) overall, lengthening steadily with support and light
Brightness Map
Cushioned daylight is ideal—north exposure, bright shade, or gentle morning rays behind a sheer. Shield from harsh noon glare to keep strap tips smooth.
Hydration Loop
Water when the surface layer just turns dry; soak through and let runoff exit completely—no standing water. Slightly faster cycles in warm months, slower in cooler periods.
Mix & Porosity
Aim for an airy, epiphyte-friendly blend: orchid bark + coarse perlite/pumice + coco chips, with a light sphagnum accent. Keep the crown slightly proud of the mix to avoid basal moisture.
Climate Sweet Spot
20–28 °C (68–82 °F) and 60–75% RH with gentle airflow. This balance preserves sleek edges and encourages longer, cleaner straps as the plant matures.
Feeding Plan
Apply a balanced fertilizer at ¼–½ strength during active growth. Rotate the planter every couple of weeks so foliage drapes evenly around the crown.
Display Ideas
Let gravity do the styling—hang near a sheer-lit window, perch on a tall plant stand, or trail from a wall shelf. Pair with matte or stone planters for a crisp, modern read.
First Two Weeks
Begin in softened brightness and step intensity up gradually over 10–14 days. Juvenile leaves may be shorter; new pushes elongate as conditions stabilize.
